Port Elizabeth: City Sightseeing and Guided Safari Tour

Discover the rich history, culture, and art of Port Elizabeth on a guided sightseeing tour around the city. Then go on a fun, educational safari through a private wildlife reserve with an experienced local guide.

Journey into the rich history, culture, and art of Port Elizabeth that explores everything from iconic structures to African craft shops. A guided tour allows you to enjoy discovering the city without worrying about navigating the confusing streets on foot or public transportation. Plus, narration along the way means you won’t pass by the historic sites without recognising their cultural significance. Then explore a private game park where rhino, giraffes, cape buffalo and zebras are just a few of the African animals that roam freely. This malaria-free safari park is just 20 minutes from Port Elizabeth, so you don’t have to waste time in transit or enter risky regions for a Port Elizabeth safari. A guided game drive in a closed tour vehicle that hits the top wildlife viewing areas is followed by a chance to see cheetah and lion in their separate enclosures.

9:00 am

Start your Port Elizabeth tour with pickup from your accommodation at 9 am. Drive past exquisite Victorian-era buildings dating back to the early 1900’s and listen to your guide's informative commentary as you go. Stop at Fort Fredrick, built during the Napoleonic wars in 1799, and learn about its pivotal role in securing British rule in South Africa.

Then head to the Donkin Reserve, one of Port Elizabeth's most important historical attractions. Admire the iconic stone pyramid built in 1820 that is now considered a National Monument. Climb the narrow wooden steps of an 1861 lighthouse and catch views of the city from high above. Continue on to an African craft shop where you can sip on a cup of locally-roasted coffee while browsing the arts and crafts available for purchase.

After getting your fill of the city, get transported to a nearby wildlife reserve for a guided safari experience. Get your cameras and binoculars ready as you drive through the park, making stops for animal sightings along the way. Look out for giraffe, white rhino, waterbuck, buffalo, nyala, impala, and many more species that roam freely in this piece of South African paradise. Stop by the cheetah and lion enclosures to see these big cats up close and personal. Get driven back to your Port Elizabeth accommodation after you've seen all that the park has to offer.
