Chapman's Peak Drive is a destination worth a visited all year round.  We check ahead of time to see if the route is open. The route gets closed by local authorities for bad weather and maintenance for the annual cycling Cape Town tour event. The local municipality always advised ahead of time online for any irregularities which will cause the route closure.

When was Chapman's Peak built?

This toll road was planned in 1915 and Chapman's Peak drive was opened in 1922, and regarded as a major feat of engineering. An unfortunate rockfall in 1990 caused the closure of the road, but it was reopened in 2003. Although the road was closed intermittently for a decade or so due to safety concerns related to rock falls, a thorough civil engineering revamp saw the road reopen in late 2009 and safe to travel all year round.
