PE Shore Excursion - Addo Elephant National Park
Overview
This full-day shore excursion takes you from your cruise ship straight into the untamed beauty of the Eastern Cape bush for a guided safari through Addo Elephant National Park, one of South Africa's most celebrated wildlife destinations. Addo is renowned for its population of over 600 elephants, along with a rich variety of mammals and more than 400 bird species, making it an authentic Big Five safari setting. Expert local guides bring the experience to life with insights into animal behaviour and conservation, and frequent stops allow plenty of time for wildlife viewing and photography. Animals roam freely, so sightings can't be guaranteed, but Addo offers excellent game viewing.
The day runs approximately 8 hours, departing at 9:00 a.m. aligned to your cruise ship's arrival and returning by 5:00 p.m. Midway through, you'll pause for a relaxed light lunch in the heart of the bush before heading back out in search of wildlife. The safari uses comfortable closed vehicles designed for all-weather protection and relaxation, with select windows for photography and airflow — making this trip suitable for all ages, including families, seniors, and guests of all comfort levels. The area is malaria-free.
Included are transfers to and from the park, the enclosed air-conditioned vehicle game drive, bottled water, an expert English-speaking guide, and a light lunch with one drink (a cash bar is available). Additional beverages, gratuities, and personal purchases are not included, and you should have breakfast on the ship before docking. Bring a passport/ID copy, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, and binoculars, and wear light breathable layers with a light jacket for cooler breezes. Allow at least 45 minutes from docking to clear customs and meet your driver/guide at the Port Elizabeth Harbour meeting point.
