The Addo Elephant Park is the only park in the world to boast having "the Big 7" - lion, leopard, black Rhino, addo elephant, cape buffalo, great white shark, and southern right whale. The marine section of the Addo elephant National Park can be accessed with a chartered boat vessel, that will take you past the nearby Islands. The Addo elephant park is a growing and flourishing National park with five distinct biomes, from sweeping grasslands to dense thickets, allowing it to sustain a wide variety of addo wildlife. The sought-after Big 5 and an abundance of other wildlife can be found with 13 species of antelope, over 400 cape buffalo and variety of bird. Did you know?

 Hunting for ivory started in the early 1700's and by the 1900 most of the remaining addo wildlife were completely exterminated. Only 12 addo elephant remained before the Addo Elephant National Park was proclaimed in 1931, with an area size of 2000 hectares. 

The Addo elephant number has grown since and now has over 600 elephant. The elephant that you will see in the Addo are the descendants from the herds of elephant that once freely roamed the eastern and southern cape.




Full Day in Addo Elephant Park

Port Elizabeth to Addo Elephant Park

Your Addo wildlife safari tour begins with pickup from your Port Elizabeth accommodation at 8:00 am, when you’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle to greet your driver and guide. Departing from Port Elizabeth, you'll enjoy a scenic +- 35 minutes’ drive.

Next, continue to the check in gate for a quick break and photos before entering the park. Your enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide will drive through the park and stop for sightings. Animals that could be seen during the drive are elephant, buck, zebra, warthog, lion to name only a few. Keep a close lookout while driving past the bushes; animals love to camouflage themselves among the thickets!

Along the way your guide will take you to the lookout point for a stretch and special treat.

After exploring the park, you'll head to the picnic site at around 12:00 pm to enjoy a specially prepared picnic lunch. Then continue the safari journey, learning about the animals and area from your guide.  

You will exit the park at around 15:30 pm (can be later and is dependEnt on animal sightings) to head back to your Port Elizabeth accommodation.
